The name Su Casa means “your home”. The communal setting at this facility offers a safe, wholesome family dynamic where clients learn to support one another and work on their recovery together. “We’re very proud that our Su Casa facility is so highly regarded here in New York City. But what most people don’t realize is that Su Casa is home to a number of dedicated support programs with broad-ranging integrated services that all come under the umbrella of LESC,” explained Valerie Walters, LESC President & Chief Executive Officer.
Located at 7 Gouverneur Slip East on Manhattan’s lower east side, LESC Su Casa is home to several residential treatment programs, including long-stay, short-stay residential, and pregnant women and infants programs for adults with opioid use disorder. Unlike traditional therapeutic communities that typically require individuals maintained on methadone to taper from medications before becoming eligible for admissions, Su Casa accepts and supports clients who are currently prescribed methadone or suboxone. In fact, Su Casa was the first facility in the region to offer a residential program for Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) to abstinence.
Our Staff Supports an Integrated Plan of Care
The professional staff at LESC Su Casa includes physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselors (CASAC), and licensed masters-level social workers. Our staff uses evidence-based practices to develop a comprehensive assessment and treatment plan for each client that includes measurable goals and objectives. As clients begin to make progress and adjust to their structured environment, they are better able to handle their personal, clinical, medical, and nutritional challenges. The staff at LESC Su Casa also work with each client to address any housing, vocational, educational, legal, and financial issues they may be facing.

LESC Long-Stay Medication to Abstinence Program
LESC's 18-month Long-Stay Residential Program offers a therapeutic community experience for adults who have opioid use disorder. The goal of this program is to be stabilized and eventually taper off medication for opioid use disorder. “Our residential programs offer a higher level of care and a stable, supportive environment that teaches coping skills to help clients manage triggers that might cause them to relapse,” explained Lolita Silva-Vasquez, LESC VP & Chief Compliance Officer. “When clients come to our Long-Stay Medication to Abstinence Program, we stabilize them with medications like methadone or buprenorphine so that they can participate in individual therapy sessions and vocational preparatory programs to help them gain employment so that they can successfully return to the community.”
The LESC Su Casa Residential Methadone-to-Abstinence Program for adults also provides:
- Early intervention services for Hep C and HIV education
- Primary health care
- Vocational services
- TASC classes
- Individual and group counseling
- Family counseling
- Services for mild mental health conditions
Congregate living provides an important foundation for our Long-Stay Maintenance Program. Clients learn to integrate structure and respect into their recovery. And the family-like living arrangement mirrors elements of how families cooperate to care for their living environment and support each other. Residents are responsible for daily chores, including house keeping, meal preparation and other responsibilities.
LESC Pregnant Women and Infants Program
This residential program is designed to help pregnant women or women who have recently given birth and have a history of opioid addiction. This program offers Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), along with the necessary prenatal care that these women need to deliver healthy babies. After the women deliver their babies, they continue to live with their infants in private rooms. At LESC Su Casa, clients continue their substance use treatment, attend parenting classes, and have access to 24-hour on-site childcare support.
It's not uncommon for clients in the LESC Pregnant Women and Infants Program to come from unstable and dysfunctional family backgrounds. They may have received limited prenatal healthcare, and some may be at risk of losing custody of their babies.
