Love, Energy, Safety, Compassion, which one resonates with you most and why?
While I can resonate with them all, I would have to say right now: ENERGY. You need to have energy to be in the maintenance field, as it is fast paced; something is always going on. I enjoy the fast-paced environment; it definitely isn’t for the weak.
What is your favorite part of being the Executive Assistant Project Coordinator at LESC?
What I enjoy most of being an Executive Assistant/Project Coordinator is that even though I don’t work directly with the clients and/or tenants… I am on the back end coordinating with contractors and staff to get work for the facilities done, so that the facilities are in their best shape for clients and tenants.
What motivates you to do your work every day at LESC?
I am the youngest of 4, born to a strong Puerto Rican woman; a mother who went above and beyond for her children while also hovering over us to protect us. But children grow up and find their own way into the world and sometimes don’t choose the right path, as my second-oldest brother did. This brought the family, especially my mother, so much pain, as he found addiction. Although he was what we would call a working, functioning addict, he was still on the wrong path. Addiction took his life at the young age of 35, something that broke me entirely. When I came to work at LESC, I thought WOW I found my home, a place where I could relate and do what I couldn’t do for my brother (even if it was indirectly) helping in some type of way. This place really hits home!
Can you share a memorable moment or achievement from your time at LESC that you’re particularly proud of?
A memorable time at LESC was during Hurricane Sandy. My team of maintenance workers worked hard without going home for 3 days straight without any complaints. During these days they made sure that the nurses got to their sites safely, and that the buildings were up and running with electricity, water, and food for the clients. They also made sure that the staff on site had what was needed to complete their daily tasks. It is an honor to be a part of such a great, solid team.
