LESC Outpatient Opioid Treatment Clinic – Unit 1 Demonstrates Resilience During Challenging Times

Building Trust and Confidence in Client Relationships

Andrea Sybliss and her team at the LESC Outpatient Maintenance Clinic – Unit 1 have shown remarkable dedication and resilience, even in the face of adversity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Superstorm Sandy and other crises, the staff at LESC went above and beyond their duties to ensure that clients received the care they needed. Andrea recalls, “Even during citywide blackouts, we were here, using flashlights and makeshift setups to continue serving our clients. We never stopped showing up to work, no matter the circumstances.”

Clients in the LESC Outpatient Maintenance Program have developed a strong trust and confidence in the nursing staff at Outpatient Maintenance Clinic – Unit 1. Head Nurse Andrea Sybliss emphasizes the importance of the client-nurse relationship:  “Our clients have a lot of confidence in us. They know who is serving them, and they believe in us. Many of our clients have been with us for years. And even if they leave, they often come back to visit us.”

Andrea’s long-standing commitment to LESC and the Outpatient Opioid Treatment Clinic is rooted in the agency’s supportive and family-like environment. She highlights the strong relationships among the nursing staff and their unwavering support for one another. Andrea reflected, “LESC feels like a family to me. We have always been there for each other, even during difficult times. This unity among the staff helps us provide the best service to our clients, and it makes our work much easier.”

Meeting the Diverse Needs of Clients

The LESC Outpatient Maintenance Program provides regular medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who need to continue to work and care for their families. Because the program is available on an outpatient basis, it offers clients a degree of flexibility not possible in residential programs. LESC’s Outpatient Treatment Program serves a diverse population with varying treatment plans and schedules. Andrea explained, “Our clients have different pickup schedules based on their individual needs. Some pick up their medication once a month, while others come every other day. We also have regular dosing meetings to review each client’s progress and determine appropriate adjustments to their treatment plans.”

In addition to counseling and medication-assisted treatment, LESC’s Outpatient Opioid Treatment Clinic Program offers a range of support services. These services may include access to vocational training, assistance with housing, educational resources, and referrals to community organizations. LESC recognizes that a comprehensive approach to recovery involves addressing the various social and environmental factors that impact an individual’s well-being.

Empathy, Respect, and Non-Discrimination

LESC’s commitment to personalized care extends beyond the clinical setting. The staff at LESC fosters strong relationships with their clients, building trust and rapport over time. Through regular interactions and ongoing support, clients receive the guidance and encouragement necessary to navigate the challenges of recovery. LESC prides itself on treating everyone with empathy and respect. Andrea emphasized, “We don’t discriminate, and we respect everyone who comes through our doors. We serve individuals from all walks of life, and we strive to create a welcoming and non-judgmental environment.”

Welcoming Clients from All Walks of Life

LESC’s commitment to treating everyone with respect is reflected in their approach to care. They understand the value of creating an inclusive and supportive environment for their clients. By fostering a culture of respect and non-discrimination, LESC ensures that clients feel comfortable and validated throughout their recovery journey.

The welcoming nature of LESC’s Outpatient Maintenance Program extends beyond accommodating work schedules. It encompasses an understanding of each client’s unique circumstances, challenges, and aspirations. Through personalized medication-assisted treatment plans and ongoing support, LESC aims to empower clients from all walks of life, helping them achieve lasting recovery.

At LESC’s Outpatient Maintenance Program, those seeking recovery from opioid addiction come from diverse backgrounds and professions. Clients include professionals who are actively employed and require a program that fits their working schedules. Andrea explained that the program at LESC serves clients from various professions; she has encountered nurses, EMT workers, attorneys, business owners, Wall Street workers, and more among their clientele. Regardless of their background, LESC remains dedicated to providing respectful and non-discriminatory care to all individuals seeking assistance.

Going Above and Beyond for the Underserved

LESC’s Outpatient Program is part of the organization’s broader commitment to addressing the opioid crisis and providing accessible, evidence-based treatment options. By offering comprehensive care, personalized treatment plans, and ongoing support, LESC’s outpatient program stands as a beacon of hope for individuals seeking recovery from opioid addiction.

LESC’s commitment to serving the community extends beyond their Outpatient Clinic. Andrea proudly shared, “We provide a unique service where clients in nursing homes can still come to the clinic with their nurse to receive their medication. This demonstrates our dedication to ensuring that even the underserved populations receive the care they need, easily and conveniently.”

LESC’s Role in Filling Service Gaps

Andrea recognizes the important role that LESC plays in the community. She acknowledged, “Without LESC, many underserved individuals would not receive the essential services they need. We are here to bridge the gaps and ensure that everyone has access to the care they deserve.” The organization’s dedication, personalized approach, and unwavering support create an environment where individuals can thrive in their recovery journeys. The LESC Outpatient Maintenance Clinic – Unit 1’s remarkable nursing staff, led by Andrea Sybliss, continues to make a positive impact and transform lives within the community they serve.
