At the time, Virginia was living in an abandoned building and kept everything she owned in a trash bag. Virginia was so happy for that second chance to be a parent. “My daughter is amazing,” Virginia emphasized. “We’ve had so many trials and tribulations, but we’ve had so much good stuff, too.”

Today, she’s still in awe of her own transformation. “Fast forward twelve years later, I make a six-figure income. I am in a career that I love,” she reported. “I’ll be at work and think, if these people really knew who I was, would I be here? You know what I mean? Like, who would have thought the junkie from the streets that lived in the abandoned house in Bushwick would be where I’m at today? Part of me is like, you better share that. And part of me is like, don’t tell those people because they’re not going to get it. But that’s why I was so excited to share!”
